On Tuesday, courtesy of Technical Racing Products, we were able to test out the new Atomic Motors; the Z2 and T2
![]() ![]() These motors are the new improved line of the previous ones, the Z1 and T1. The first to be tested was the Z2, a motor that is visually quite different and similar to the previous model, the Z1, comes with a spiral motor. This motor was tested right out of the box, in other words, without lubricating the ball bearings or use of any othr products such as the "voodo" liquid; directly out of the box. The batteries used were the 900mha and the "trims" were adjusted to the max and the exponentials neutral. ![]() So the conclusions of the Z2 from what I could see are the following: - it has a very progessive acceleration, wthout losing the initial "kick". It is characterised by being a very noble motor which allows for you to give it all the gas you want without having to have your finger constantly onthe brake. - The best thing to do is to use a 8 pinion to further strectch out the motor and have good output, ( the 7 pinion dampens the peak velocity and the 9 pinion doesn´t give as much spark in the performance.) - Don´t worry about the duration of the batteries as they can easily last for 17 mins with a limit of 19 mins, It must be emphasised that the motor holds up well with the batteries without having any significant power loss. This gives máximum and balanced performance right up until it dies down suddenly at the end of the battery life. - One point of great interest is that the motor never overheats. After racing for 20mins the motor still has a moderate temperature in comparison to the motors that most of us are accustomed to. This in part, is due to the large cooling casing that it has. ![]() As a final conclusion, we must mention that this motor is designed for those who want keep the motor output and and maximum velocity under control; a progressive motor that is rectifiable without having to worry about causing collisions (which is even worse). Very noble and reliable. Recommended for upper intermediate level Miniz users. Giving the motor a good tune up and achieving an even higher yield (which isn´t necessary) depends on the desires of each individual!! whether it be via the prior use of lubricants, changing the brushes etc. ![]() First endurance and yield test of the T2 motor: As with the Z2, the Atomic T2 motor was tested "right out of the box" without the use of any lubricating oils on the ball bearings nor the use of "voodo". No special method of breaking in the motor was used either. ![]() With the T2 we are faced with a motor with awesome acceleration!! and an incredible top speed. I doubt that there will be any Miniz circuits where a motor of this caliber wouldn´t provide you with everything that you need!! Its main characteristic is the impressive output that it has, and as with the american "corvette", its uncontrollable horsepower. The most logical thing would be to think that with so much power, it must have a low endurance, but this is not the case. The great suprise was when it was observed how the 900mha batteries lasted up to 19mins. Incredible but true! Also after 16 mins of performance, no diminishing at all in the yield of the motor of the motor was detected. With a pinion of 7 the car is uncontrollable (at least for me). The wheels were constantly skidding and the you will only end up wearing down the tires, depending on the racing surface obviously. It is advisable to use a 9 pinion which would allow for a more progressive output. However the problem is when you reach the straights: at that point nobody can come close to the Miniz!!! This motor, as with the Z2 doesn´t over heat either; incredible but true. This is due in part, to the fact that it carries the same hyperventilated casing as the smaller Z2 version. In conclusion, it can be said that is it a motor that flies, yes ladies and gentlemen, a motor than doesn´t run, but flies! The first words that came out of my mouth were: uuuuaaaalaaa!!! I think that it will be a motor that will awaken once again the fantastic duels between man and his machine, where the driver will face the challenge of being able to dominate the force of his new motor!! And also where the preparation of the car will have to be sinchronised with such power. Recommended for the highest level Miniz racers, or not!! ![]() I am willing to start a bet to see who can race an entire lap with a T2 without having a single collision!!! Enjoy! Its worth it!
